Learn to Fly
We are a Declared Training Organisation (DTO) with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). We can offer flight training in your pursuit of a PPL, LAPL or NPPL for Single Engine Piston (SEP) aircraft. We do not offer helicopter or commercial licence training. We are a small volunteer run club that operates mostly at weekends. We have a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and many students join us and enjoy our relaxed yet professional approach. If you are looking to rapidly complete your licence, given the weekend flying you may wish to consider choosing somewhere else to learn. The club operates a 1981 Cessna 152, registration G-BILS for training. A versatile, hard wearing and efficient aircraft, Lima Sierra, as she is known to all of us, is a stalwart of Mona Flying Club!
A full PPL can take 18 - 24 months to achieve with us and will cost in the region of £7,000 to £8,000 as a guide. We don’t believe in the ‘hard sell’ and above all want you to enjoy your time with us. As well as practical training we are authorised to administer and oversee the online CAA private pilots examinations. We sell Pooleys pilot equipment and can equip you with all you need for your new hobby. Don’t worry - we’ll only recommend you something when you need it and you are free to purchase elsewhere or use your own!
